Which Trimble products does this cover?
This guide covers Trimble's reality capture and site data software: ProjectSight 360 Capture, the Trimble Reality Capture platform service and Trimble Connect. It does not cover Trimble's survey instruments, GNSS receivers, machine control or office survey software. If you are replacing a total station or a scanner, this is the wrong list.
ProjectSight 360 Capture is a 360 photo add-on to ProjectSight, Trimble's construction project management software. A field worker walks the site with a supported Insta360 camera, and AI maps the path and aligns the images to the drawings. Trimble announced it in November 2025, and in 2026 it became available in North America, the UK and Ireland.
The Trimble Reality Capture platform service is an extension to Trimble Connect for point clouds, panoramic imagery and 2D maps from laser scanners, mobile mapping and drones. It is licensed by data usage, in plans of 1, 5 or 10 TB. Trimble Connect is the collaboration platform underneath both, priced per user.
Why do teams look beyond Trimble for site data?
Teams look beyond Trimble for three reasons: speed and usability in the field, data types it handles less well, such as drone maps for the whole site, and access for people who do not use Trimble. For many contractors, however, Trimble's integration with their existing tools outweighs all three, which is why it wins deals.
What do Trimble's users say?
ProjectSight 360 Capture is too new for a body of reviews, so the evidence comes from the platforms it sits in. According to Capterra, ProjectSight holds 3.8 from 51 reviews. Of the 25 shown in September 2026, 6 mention slowness and 5 mention problems with the mobile app. One 2025 reviewer called it a "super slow program," and a 2023 reviewer said it had become "almost unusable in the field because of how long it takes to download plans."
The praise is real too. The same 2025 reviewer called it a "solid user interface" where "drawings are very easy [to] navigate," and several reviewers praise its document control and its integration with Trimble's Vista accounting. According to Capterra, Trimble Connect holds 4.0 from 14 reviews, and one December 2025 reviewer summed up its value: "Everyone can see the latest version, which avoids confusion on site." Each quote is one person's experience.
The best Trimble alternatives for reality capture and site data in 2026
Seven alternatives are worth considering, and each is built around a different kind of capture. Birdi suits drone, 360 and design data shared with a wider team. OpenSpace suits 360 walkthroughs, DroneDeploy suits all-in-one capture, and Propeller suits earthworks. Site Scan, GeoCloud and Matterport suit Esri, Leica and interior 3D work. The order is not a ranking.
Every entry carries the same fields, including the tools it connects to, since workflow fit is where Trimble is strongest.
1. Birdi
Best for: construction and mining teams where a few people capture and process site data, and many more need to see, measure and compare it: project managers, engineers, owners and clients.
Typical customer size / segment: construction and mining firms of roughly 30 to 500 staff, on the Growth and Ultimate plans.
Key strengths:
- One map for drone maps, point clouds, 3D tiles, 360 photos, video, design files and documents.

When should you stay with Trimble?
Stay with Trimble when your project management, accounting and model coordination already run through ProjectSight, Vista and Trimble Connect. In that case, 360 Capture puts site photos next to the RFIs, issues and punch items they explain. No alternative on this list sits inside that workflow in the same way.
That position is a genuine advantage, not a technicality. Integration is still rare: according to the 2020 JBKnowledge ConTech Report, only 5% of respondents said all their apps integrated, and 27% said none of their phone apps shared data. A tool the operations team already opens every day will often beat a better tool they must learn. So capability alone rarely wins these decisions.
When is an alternative worth it anyway?
An alternative is worth it when the data or the audience falls outside Trimble's workflow. The clearest cases are drone maps of the whole site, point clouds and design overlays viewed together by people who do not use Trimble, or owners and clients who need to see site data without a license. Mining and civil sites where the survey team runs other tools are another.
